The Manchester City star, who has been strongly linked with a move to Newcastle United, would be a great addition to the West Ham United squad.

Slaven Bilic has a lot of work to do with his Hammers squad this summer, if he is to guide them back into contention for a Europa League spot next term.

West Ham made so many mistakes during the summer transfer window of 2016, and the Croatian now has to rectify those errors by bringing in some genuine quality this time around.

One particular area of concern for Bilic will be his central midfield options, with Mark Noble seemingly past his best, and a lack of real steel and determination in the middle of the park.

With this in mind, the East Londoners should make a strong push for Man City midfielder Fernando.

The Sun claim that Newcastle are strongly interested in bringing the Brazilian to St James’ Park, in a move that would cost the Toon £10 million.

West Ham would easily be able to compete with the Magpies, however, and are arguably in a stronger position than them to tempt him into a switch.

The attraction of London is always a big deal in the football world, and with ambitious talk emanating from the Hammers setup, Fernando could be keen to join what is an exciting project.

He would slot in perfectly at the base of the Hammers’ midfield, sitting just in front of the defence, and he would certainly add a specific level of bite and tenacity that Bilic’s side have been so desperately bereft of recently.

Fernando would provide the platform from which West Ham’s more creative players could flourish, and express themselves without the responsibility of putting in a defensive shift.

For a fee in the region of £10 million, the Hammers cannot really go wrong, and should make a move for the City star as a matter of priority.
