Josh Coburn scored the only goal of the game on Tuesday night as Middlesbrough produced another FA Cup giant killing to beat Tottenham. Newcastle legend Shearer took to Twitter, to applaud teenager Coburn.

The 19-year-old came off the bench on Tuesday night, in front of a sold-out Riverside, to strike a thunderbolt into the top corner of Hugo Lloris’ goal. The effort, coming in second-half extra-time, proved to be the winner.

Despite the lack of goals, it was a brilliant game that could have gone either way – even Harry Kane had a goal ruled out somewhat controversially. It sees Boro enter the quarter-finals, after already beaten Manchester United.

Coburn has come in for huge praise on social media, after netting what was only his fifth senior goal in his 16th outing. Newcastle legend Shearer reacted to Coburn’s Tweet – applauding the Boro striker, saying “be proud”.

Shearer message to Coburn: Stuff of dreams for Middlesbrough ace

A player that came through the ranks at Sunderland and only joined Middlesbrough in 2018 as a 16-year-old, Coburn’s face was a picture when he turned away to celebrate his stunning strike, on 107 minutes.

The fact that Newcastle legend Shearer has reacted on Twitter to Coburn shows just how big a goal it was. It is a moment the striker will never forget, and could be the kickstart for his career under Boro boss Wilder.
