Much of Newcastle’s misery against Watford was inflicted by a player that they could have signed.

It has been a difficult time for Newcastle United of late, with the club having lost their last four Premier League games in succession.
Newcastle’s latest defeat, a 3-0 loss at home to Watford, saw them tormented by the Hornets’ left wing-back Marvin Zeegelaar, who was linked with a move to St James’ Park in the summer transfer window when he was still a Sporting Lisbon player, as reported by Chronicle Live.

Perhaps determined to prove a point against the club he could have joined, Zeegelaar was hugely effective on Saturday as he frequently pushed forwards to excellent effect.
Zeegelaar teed up Will Hughes to open the scoring and then provided the delivery from which DeAndre Yedlin inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Andre Gray added a third for Watford but it was the performance of Zeegelaar which was the main talking point as Newcastle were unable to cope with the threat that he provided.
Newcastle supporters could have been forgiven for wishing that their club had signed Zeegelaar, especially with Javi Manquillo again struggling when asked to fill in at left-back for the Magpies.
