MARCA have reported that Newcastle United are ready to pay the £14.9 million (€17 million) release clause to sign Lee Kang-in.

Sunday’s edition of the Spanish newspaper had claimed that Aston Villa were also interested to sign the Newcastle-linked Kang-in from Sevilla.

It was also mentioned that the Mallorca playmaker was garnering plenty of interest from the Premier League, with a number of sides gathered to watch him in action against Atletico Madrid this season.

While Burnley were also listed as one of the interested clubs, it seems as if Lee Kang-in could either end up at Newcastle United or Aston Villa.

MARCA had previously emphasised that Mallorca would only let Lee Kang-in depart, if any of the interested suitors accepted to pay the fee towards his release clause.

With Newcastle United staking a claim for qualifying for the Europa League at the very least, it is no surprise to see the club aim for newer additions in the January transfer window.

A fresh update now mentions that Newcastle are looking at sealing the deal.

As per a new report by MARCA, Newcastle United believe the £14.9 million release clause in place to sign Aston Villa-linked attacker Lee Kang-in is ‘perfectly acceptable.’

With the report also claiming that Mallorca are worried about losing Kang-in, Eddie Howe and Co. could now ensure that their fears are manifested by signing him.

Lee Kang-in interest shows the Magpies’ level of ambition

While a finish right outside the top 6 would be deemed as a successful season for Newcastle, it’s clear to see that the club are hungry for more with their willingness to now sign Lee Kang-in.

It seems to be that the club’s goal is to try their level best to reach the Champions League and by potentially adding another creator to their books in Kang-in, that could very well be the case.
