According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are interested in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

The England international is struggling for minutes at Stamford Bridge this season, starting just eight league games so far, and the Magpies are now looking to take advantage of this situation.

With Gallagher seemingly not first choice in west London, a move to Tyneside where he would likely be guaranteed more gametime may appeal to the former Crystal Palace loanee.

What type of player would Newcastle be getting here? Well, they’d be getting someone with an endless motor in the middle of the park and someone who can also contribute in the final third. After all, he did net eight league goals last season.

Perhaps the biggest testament to Gallagher’s ability and style of play is the fact that former Newcastle and Liverpool star Jose Enrique has previously described the 22-year-old as the perfect player for Jurgen Klopp’s current Liverpool side.

Given that Eddie Howe is currently employing a high-pressing style at Newcastle that is reminiscent of a prime Klopp team, one would have to imagine that Gallagher would be a brilliant addition to this side.

Apparently, Gallagher is a long-term target for Newcastle, with Steve Nickson reportedly looking into a deal for the midfielder in each of the past two summer transfer windows.

Newcastle may have failed with their pursuits of Gallagher in the past, but it’s fair to say that St James’ Park has become a much more alluring destination since then.

Indeed, not only are Newcastle now the richest football club on the planet, they’re genuinely one of the best teams around.

They’re third in the Premier League, in a cup semi-final and are on the longest unbeaten run of any team in Europe’s top five leagues right now.

Enrique may have once said that Gallagher would be perfect for Liverpool, but we can’t help but feel that a move to Newcastle may be perfect for the Chelsea man.
