Newcastle United are reportedly scouting a midfielder from Boca Juniors ahead of a potential transfer move.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United were certainly quiet and fustrated in the summer transfer window with the Magpies making just two additions but none who could make an impact for the first team immediately.

Newcastle made several offers for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi but the Magpies failed to get a deal over the line for the former Chelsea ace.

After several back-and-forth conversations with Palace, Steve Parish’s side increased Guehi’s price to £75 million, after initially demanding £70 million for the Englishman, who shone at Euro 2024.

Newcastle scouting Boca Juniors’ Kevin Zenon

According to a report from Argentine outlet LT.10, Newcastle have scouted Boca Juniors midfielder Kevin Zenon, who has excelled for the South American side.

The Argentine club signed him from Unión Santa Fe in January, and the midfielder managed four goals and seven assists from 32 games this year.

The report from LT.10 claims who state the Magpies want to sign him and have made contact. That contact is probably to understand the conditions needed to secure his services.

Since being appointed as Newcastle’s sporting director in the summer, Paul Mitchell has not really had a chance to show off his recruitment skills but these are the potential signings that will show the abilities of the Englishman.

The Argentine has a deal lasting until December 2028, and the report states Boca Juniors want $20 million [£15.2 million] to let go of him. Newcastle could well make a move for him in January.

Newcastle scouted Boca Juniors in January

HITC reported back in April that Manchester United and Chelsea had sent scouts to watch Zenon with Newcastle also keen.

We also understand that, with Boca Juniors boasting some of the brightest young talents in South American football, a number of clubs from the other side of the Atlantic are making visits to the iconic La Bombonera stadium.

Eddie Howe’s Magpies have watched Boca Juniors on a number of occasions in the last few weeks, with Zenon and Nicolas Valentini the main reason for those scouting missions.

For such a small fee, this could prove to be a bargain for Newcastle but they may well face competition from other Premier League clubs for the Argentine.
