Newcastle United want Hugo Ekitike and a deal for the Reims striker is back on after ‘new, positive’ talks over bringing him to Tyneside.

The Magpies have secured their first summer signing after signing Matt Targett on a permanent basis from Aston Villa.

Eddie Howe needs more signings this summer though and PIF’s investment means Newcastle should be active in the transfer window.

Another striker is wanted and the main name in the mix is Reims wonderkid Ekitike having missed out on a January deal.

Newcastle United want Hugo Ekitike

Newcastle were desperate to land Reims starlet Ekitike in January but just couldn’t push the deal through.

The Magpies are back in the race for Ekitike and Fabrizio Romano has suggested that a five-year deal is in the pipeline.

Yet whilst Ekitike allegedly wanted to join Newcastle, the deal seems to have gone quiet over the last 10 days or so.

There were fears that Ekitike would be pushed elsewhere by agents involved in the deal with plenty of other clubs keen on the striker.

Newcastle fans have been desperate for an update especially amid claims in April that Arsenal are closely looking at Ekitike ahead of a possible move.

Romano has now offered an update on Twitter, claiming that there has been ‘new, positive’ talks between Newcastle and Ekitike’s agent.

It’s stated that the deal is ‘back on track’ now and that the injury Ekitike has picked up on international duty isn’t a problem.

Newcastle will now push ahead with their attempts to sign Ekitike and already have a deal in place with Reims.

It’s now over to Ekitike and his agent but Newcastle seemingly believe that the deal could finally happen.

Ekitike, 19, hit 10 goals and three assists in 23 games for Reims last season, taking French football by storm.

Newcastle hope to land a major coup by picking up a wonderkid striker and will feel it’s possible after some bumps in the road.
