Allan Saint-Maximin produced a stunning performance as Newcastle eased past Everton to secure a crucial three points. Immediately on Twitter after the match, Saint-Maximin responded to an Everton fan calling him average.

Saint-Maximin, 24, produced a wonderful display as Newcastle won for a second successive Premier League match. While the Frenchman did not score, he was crucial in the win – laying on an assist for the second goal.

Jamaal Lascelles’ own goal was immediately cancelled out when Mason Holgate inadvertently put through his own net. But in the second half, it was Eddie Howe’s side that were dominant, eventually winning 3-1.

The effervescent Saint-Maximin got to the byline and stood a ball up, finding its way to Ryan Fraser – who scored. A third came in the form of Kieran Trippier, the England defender curling a wonderful free-kick in.

Saint-Maximin is renowned for his antics on Twitter and soon after his side beat Everton – he replied to a Toffees fan on Twitter. The fan in question called Saint-Maximin “average”, and Championship level on January 15.

If it was not already apparent, Saint-Maximin is clearly the darling of Toon fans. While there was huge reception for Trippier after his first goal, and the introduction of Bruno Guimaraes – Saint-Maximin is still number one.

His work rate, his skill, his passion, and his understanding of the Newcastle fans has really struck a chord. Combine that with his wit on Twitter, and Toon fans have got themselves a player that could be a Toon legend.
