Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly trying to sign Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen.
According to Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go Podcast, Newcastle United are interested in signing Joachim Andersen from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window.
The Italian journalist has claimed that Newcastle have spoken with the agents of Andersen, who is a “highly-rated defender”, according to Palace chairman Steve Parish on the club’s official website.
Romano has noted that Newcastle also tried to sign Axel Disasi from AS Monaco before the 25-year-old France international centre-back move to Chelsea this summer.
The Guardian reported last month that Newcastle want to sign Andersen, adding that Palace want £40 million for the 27-year-old Denmark international midfielder.

Romano said, as transcribed by GBB: “Let’s see what happens with the centre-backs I think as an extra deal.
“They always had conversations with [Axel] Disasi but then he joined Chelsea, also they spoke multiple times with the agents of Joachim Andersen who is a player they have appreciated for a long time.”
Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen would make Newcastle United better
In our view, Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen would be a good signing for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
Andersen has done well in the Premier League and has proved that he can hold his own in the English top flight.
And he is 27 now.
The Denmark international is at the top of his game at the moment and would be able to make an immediate impact at Newcastle.
Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Dan Burn are the main options at centre-back for Newcastle manager Eddie Howe at the moment.
Schar and Lascelles have not always been great, while Burn has been playing at left-back.
Andersen would make Newcastle stronger at the back.
The defender has made 97 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
Andersen has scored two goals, given four assists, and kept 28 clean sheets.
