Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have now joined Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the race for Lille midfielder Renato Sanches, according to Calciomercato.
It has been reported by the Italian news outlet that Newcastle are willing to pay more in salary than AC Milan for Lille star Sanches.
The Premier League club have reportedly requested information about the midfielder.
Lille want €35 million (£29.84 million) for the 24-year-old Portugal international midfielder.
Newcastle competition for Arsenal for Renato Sanches
Newcastle’s reported interest in Sanches means more competition for Arsenal.
Calciomercato reported last month that Arsenal Technical Director Edu wants to bring Sanches to the Emirates Stadium.
Edu is reportedly willing to sell Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Bernd Leno to fund a move for the midfielder.

Newcastle United or Arsenal?
Arteta’s Arsenal reportedly wanted to sign Sanches from Lille in the summer of 2021.
Central defender Gabriel even told the 24-year-old on Instagram to “Come to Arsenal.” (June 2021, The Sun).
Sanches himself recently said that Arsenal are still interested in him.
In our opinion, a move to Arsenal would be more appealing to Sanches than a transfer to Newcastle.
Carlo Ancelotti, now at Real Madrid, worked with Sanches at Bayern Munich, and described him as “fantastic” and “amazing” (The Daily Mail, July 2016).
Remember, Lille won the Ligue 1 title last season, and Newcastle could get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the current campaign.
