Newcastle United had feared that they would be without the winger for the rest of the season.

A report in the Chronicle has suggested that Rolando Aarons could still have a role to play in Newcastle United’s promotion push as his injury may not keep him out for as long as first feared.

According to the Chronicle, the 21-year-old was expected to be out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in November.

However, it now appears that the winger may actually return much sooner than initially thought as the Chronicle suggests that he could be back by April.

While Aarons only played a handful of games before he sustained the problem this term, and none since August, his early return would surely still provide Rafa Benitez’s men with a boost as they look to secure promotion from the Championship.

From the start of April, the Magpies have eight fixtures to contend with before the curtain comes down on the regular season, including fixtures against fellow promotion chasers Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds.

And although Newcastle supporters may not be expecting too much from Aarons if he does return for that period of the campaign, his fresh legs may be exactly what Benitez’s men need to help them get across the line and secure automatic-promotion at the first time of asking.
