Liverpool supporters have taken to Twitter to react over news about tomorrow’s clash with Newcastle United at Anfield.

It has been confirmed by the Premier League that Mike Dean has been appointed to officiate the contest.

Dean is arguably the Premier League’s most experienced referees.

But Liverpool’s record of winning games with him in the centre this year has been, well, a little mixed to say the least.

The Wirral-born 53-year-old has overseen four Premier League games involving Liverpool since January.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have won two, lost one and drawn one of those outings.

The first one was a visit of Burnley, which the Clarets won 1-0 at Anfield earlier this year, and the most recent Dean match was a 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Merseyside in October.

Here is how Liverpool supporters reacted to tonight’s appointment versus Newcastle United.

Alisson heroics

Perhaps the most famous Liverpool game Dean will ever officiate was a win at West Bromwich Albion back in May.

Klopp’s side won 2-1 to keep alive their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

But history will remember it as the game where Alisson Becker, the Braziliana goalkeeper, popped up with a last-minute glancing header to secure a remarkable victory for the visitors on that occasion.

Well, it potentially isn’t the biggest Liverpool outing Dean will oversee, but it’s one that’ll live extremely long in the supporters’ memories nevertheless.

Punishable

Refereeing aside, this should represent a relatively simple victory for the Merseysiders and if we’re left talking about Dean, something is majorly wrong.

Because let’s be honest, Newcastle aren’t a brilliant football team, evident by their 4-0 defeat at Leicester City this past weekend.

And if Leicester can dish out that level of punishment, it’s nothing compared to what Liverpool could do if the Premier League champions from 2020 are in a punishable mood at Anfield.
