Freddie Woodman made his debut for Aberdeen on Saturday after leaving Newcastle on loan.

Newcastle United’s head of goalkeeping Simon Smith has congratulated Toon loanee Freddie Woodman after the young stopper kept a clean sheet on his Aberdeen debut.
The 20-year-old joined the Scottish Premiership side on deadline day in January, joining a number of fringe stars to leave St. James’ Park on loan including Jack Colback, Aleksander Mitrovic, Rolando Aarons and Henri Saivet.

Woodman, an England Under-20 World Cup winner from last summer, made his debut for the Toon in January during the 3-1 FA Cup win over Luton Town, but was subsequently loaned out.
He earned a comfortable clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Hamilton, replacing the injured Joe Lewis, and goalkeeping coach Smith congratulated the young Newcastle goalkeeper after his debut.
The deadline-day signing of Martin Dubravka on loan from Sparta Prague pushed Woodman further down the pecking order, with Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and the Slovakia international considered above him.
Woodman has two and a half years remaining on his contract at St. James’ Park but it remains to be seen if he will seek a permanent exit in the summer as he struggles to make a breakthrough under Rafa Benitez.
