Newcastle are set to sign Garang Kuol with the Central Coast Mariners star being praised as a ‘special talent’ over in Australia.

The transfer window is closed and Newcastle will be happy with their summer business.

Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak have all arrived whilst Matt Targett joined on a permanent deal after a successful loan.

Dan Ashworth and co will be preparing for January though and it looks like one deal is already in the pipeline for 2023.

Newcastle are set to sign Garang Kuol

beIN Sports over in Australia reported earlier this morning that Newcastle are on the verge of signing Central Coast Mariners talent Garang Kuol.

It’s stated that Kuol has already agreed a four-year deal worth around £25,000-a-week at St James’ Park.

That’s a hefty wage for 17-year-old Kuol, who turns 18 on Thursday.

It’s shaping up to be quite the week for Kuol; a birthday, a deal with Newcastle in the pipeline and a first call-up to the Australia national team.

Kuol is now in line to play at the World Cup later this year and Newcastle may feel that they need to strike a deal now before other clubs join the race.

Kuol has already hit four goals in nine games for Central Coast Mariners and his potential is through the roof.

One man who knows Kuol well is Nick Montgomery, who some may remember from his time playing with Sheffield United.

The 40-year-old – who hails from Leeds – now manages Central Coast Mariners and has been overseeing Kuol’s development over in Australia.

Montgomery spoke to Sporting News earlier this year and spoke very highly of Kuol and his potential.

Montgomery called Kuol a ‘special talent’ and noted that he needs just one chance to score and he takes it, believing that he is just an outstanding prospect.

“We’ve got the smallest budget, smallest squad in the league but what we are blessed with is good young players that I’ve coached for a couple of years that know what I expect,” said Montgomery. “They’re honest, they’re hard-working and there’s plenty of them that played out there that have been playing all season but Garang, he’s a special talent. When he comes off the bench he just needs one chance. That shows what a talent he is,” he added.

A fight for Kuol’s signature was always going to happen after that kind of praise and it looks like Newcastle have managed to win the race.
