Newcastle United are leading the race for Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to The Sun.
What’s the story?
The Sun have reported that Newcastle want to sign Van de Beek from Premier League rivals Manchester United in the January transfer window.
The British tabloid has claimed that the Magpies are ‘the frontrunners’ for the 24-year-old Netherlands international midfielder.
Could a Newcastle transfer happen?
Van de Beek is a peripheral figure at Manchester United.
The Dutchman simply cannot get regular playing time under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 24-year-old has played only 15 minutes in the Premier League and just 49 minutes in the Champions League so far this season.
The Manchester United no. 34 made four starts in the league last season.

Now, we know that Newcastle are in a relegation fight.
But we also know that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) have lofty plans for the Magpies.
A move to Newcastle and playing a key role in the team could be tempting for Van de Beek, described as “a fantastic player” by Arsenal legend Ian Wright on Premier League Productions in October 2021.
Newcastle have wealthy owners now, so they would not have any problem in matching or bettering the midfielder’s current £120,0000-a-week salary (Spotrac).
