The Paraguayan joined Newcastle United for a club record fee on transfer deadline day.

Well-respected Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague raved about the quality of Newcastle’s new signing Miguel Almiron, as quoted by the Daily Star, and the Spaniard’s comments should get the Toon army very excited indeed.
The 24-year-old racked up an impressive 22 goals and 21 assists in 70 appearances from midfield for Atlanta United, and Rafa Benitez will be hoping that he can make a big difference for his side during the final third of the season.
Newcastle are far from safe from the threat of relegation, so having someone like the Paraguay international amongst their ranks will greatly enhance their chances of avoiding the drop this season.
Almiron’s £20 million move to Newcastle finally broke their long-standing transfer record, when they signed Michael Owen from Real Madrid for around £17 million in 2005.
And Balague believes that the Paraguayan will make a big difference for the Magpies, as quoted by the Daily Star:

“They’ve been to see him, they’ve been seeing videos, they’ve been seeing games, MLS games, so they know everything about him. They’re impressed with the quality of what he does with the ball. The very impressive reaction speed when he loses the ball, he works very hard without it, a lot of things that could adapt straight away. He speaks Spanish like the manager as well.”
Newcastle earned a magnificent win over Manchester City on Tuesday night, and they will be buzzing heading into today’s clash with Tottenham at Wembley.
Whether the game will come too quickly for Almiron to make his debut, however, remains to be seen.
