Brendan Rodgers has told the Chronicle that Newcastle United fans can expect another summer of incomings and is excited at the prospect of a new Newcastle. He praised the fans, and the work done by Eddie Howe so far.
Bruno Guimaraes, one of Newcastle’s January arrivals, scored twice on Sunday afternoon as the Toon beat Leicester – his second coming in injury time, planting a header past Kasper Schmeichel from a Joe Willock cross.
Howe has turned things around, helped by some excellent additions in the January window – but also the work in training, and reconnecting fans. Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Dan Burn and Matt Targett have been superb.
Bruno has been the pick of the bunch, especially after his brace on Sunday. Rodgers gave his verdict, predicting a big summer and underlining his excitement at the future of Newcastle – claiming they are one of the biggest.
“It’s one of the cities and grounds that I’ve really enjoyed coming to, whether it’s with Swansea or Liverpool or Leicester, so it’s great for the supporters because the passion here is incredible,” Rodgers said.
“Eddie’s come in and made a very good start, and made some really good signings in January. They’ll look to build on it in the summer, but this is one of the iconic football clubs in Britain. It’s going to be a special place.”

There are plenty of areas off the pitch that require attention. But on the pitch, there are number of players that could be replaced. In goal, Newcastle need perhaps an improvement on Martin Dubravka.
Another centre-back alongside Dan Burn, the permanent signing of Matt Targett, another central midfielder, another striker – different to Chris Wood and Callum Wilson – and importantly, a right-winger.
They might even need to replace Allan Saint-Maximin on the left. So there are plenty of areas that need improving, and plenty of work to be done.
