Newcastle United continued their unbeaten run to claim a massive 2-0 win away from home against relegation rivals Brentford, with the result pulling the Magpies further away from the relegation zone.

First-half goals from Joelinton and Joe Willock were enough to secure the three points for Eddie Howe’s side, who now sit 14th in the Premier League standings and four points ahead of 18th-place Burnley.

Indeed, it was another great performance from the northeast side, and Fabian Schar was once again in top form, with the Swiss international keeping a clean sheet and assisting the second and decisive goal for Willock just before half-time.

The defender, who earns a reported £40,000-a-week, has started Newcastle’s last seven matches which have seen the Toon go on a sensational unbeaten run, with Schar keeping his third clean sheet of this streak against Brentford.

Schar has been a unit for Newcastle in recent weeks, and the centre-back took to Twitter to praise the win with a short message that was loved by supporters on social media.

Newcastle’s form has seen the Magpies shoot up the Premier League standings, and their latest win against Brentford could be the difference between staying up or a dramatic return back down to the Championship.

Schar’s display vs. Brentford shows how crucial he is for Newcastle

Schar has played every minute for Newcastle in this seven-game unbeaten run, and it is perhaps not too surprising that the Toon have impressed with the Swiss star in the XI following this latest result against Brentford.

The 30-year-old has been a titan in the defence for Newcastle, and against Brentford, Schar was at his brilliant best in a game that could be the crucial turning point supporters were looking for under Howe.
