Newcastle United striker Islam Slimani finally made his first-team debut on Monday night but struggled to have any kind of an impact against Everton as the Toon lost 1-0 – but fans still want him to start against West Brom on Saturday.

Rafa Benitez’s side play host to the rock-bottom Premier League strugglers at St. James’ Park, with the Magpies expected to take all three points against Darren Moore’s beleaguered side.

Algeria international Slimani, 29, has failed to appear for Newcastle on a regular basis since joining the club in January on loan until the end of the season due to a long-term muscle problem. However, he started against Everton.

But Theo Walcott’s strike proved to be the only goal of the game, with former Sporting Lisbon striker Slimani struggling to make his mark on the game in what was his first start after sub appearances against Arsenal and Huddersfield.

However, Newcastle are likely to enjoy more of the ball on Saturday and Toon fans believe it is the perfect opportunity for Slimani to showcase his worth ahead of what promises to be an interesting summer for the target man.

One fan believes there is “nothing to lose” when it comes to starting Slimani, who cost Leicester a huge £29million in the summer of 2016.
