The Magpies are set to face Manchester City, West Ham and Wolves in China in pre-season.
Newcastle United have announced that they will be one of the sides taking part in this summer’s Premier League Asia Trophy in China.
The Magpies form a quartet of Premier League sides, along with Manchester City, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, in contesting the tournament, which takes place every other year.
All four teams will play in a double-header at Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on Wednesday 17 July, with a third/fourth place play-off and final staged at Shanghai’s Hongkou Stadium on Saturday 20 July.
Newcastle are taking part in the competition for the second time after featuring in the inaugural competition in 2003, the club confirming that ticket prices and on-sale dates will be announced soon.
That said, there is still a lot on the minds of the Toon Army at present, with the club just five points clear of the relegation zone, not to mention the future of Rafael Benitez, whose contract runs out at the end of the season (Chronicle Live), and as such any focus on the summer is likely to be on ice.
