The Magpies U23s skipper scored a brace to help his side seal a Premier League 2 playoff place.

Newcastle United’s Under-23s are having a superb season and on Monday night they succeeded in sealing a playoff spot in the Premier League 2’s second division.
The Magpies had to do it the hard way when up against Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium as they found themselves two goals down by the half time mark.
Gabriel Kyeremateng struck to give the Potters the lead, before Newcastle U23s captain Owen Bailey missed a penalty, and then Daniel Jarvis netted Stoke’s second.
However, Bailey made amends by halving the deficit with a powerful header and, after substitute Yannick Toure had levelled, nodded home Matthew Longstaff’s corner to complete the turnaround in the 3-2 win.
Newcastle are now in with a chance of promotion to Premier League 2’s first division, having sealed the playoff berth with two league games – against Manchester United and Middlesbrough respectively – to spare.

In addition, Ben Dawson’s charges are still in the running for the Premier League Cup, with a semi-final against Leeds United awaiting the Tynesiders at Guiseley’s Nethermoor Park on Tuesday 23 April, 7pm kickoff.
Here is how some Newcastle fans reacted on Twitter to the U23s’ latest triumph, with a lot of praise sent the way of 20-year-old centre-back Bailey:
