Newcastle United Under-23s have coasted into the final of the Premier League Cup following a 3-0 victory over Leeds United Under-23s at Nethermoor Park.
Both sides were evenly matched for much of the first half, though Whites ace Ryan Edmondson coming close on 24 minutes amid a goalmouth scramble, but Carlos Corberan’s charges were dominant come half time.
However, the Magpies were able to retain their clean sheet come the break and they went on to take the lead on 50 minutes when Hugo Diaz fouled Callum Roberts in the box and Kelland Watts made no mistake with his penalty.
Newcastle then doubled their lead in the 54th minute as Cal Roberts took advantage of a mistake from Bryce Hosannah at the back, slalomed his way into the box and duly slotted past Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
The cherry on top came four minutes from time when Elias Sorensen rifled a ferocious effort from the edge of the box after a quick attack from the right to make it three unanswered goals for Ben Dawson’s side.

The winners of the quarter-final tie between Everton and Blackburn Rovers – which is yet to be played – will face Swansea City for the right to face the Magpies in the final.
