Newcastle United academy ace Elias Sorensen has been recognised for his exploits this term by being awarded the Wor Jackie award at Sport Newcastle’s annual awards dinner on Thursday night.

The 19-year-old forward, who joined the Tyneside outfit from Danish club HB Koge U19 in 2016, has scored 19 goals for the Magpies Under-23s this season (Chronicle Live), form which earned him a loan move to League One side Blackpool in January.

Sorensen, who also has two goals in two appearances for Denmark Under-21s (Transfermarkt), follows the likes of Andy Carroll, Freddie Woodman, Sean Longstaff and Rolando Aarons in collecting the prestigious award, which is presented by the editor of The Chronicle.

The Wor Jackie Trophy is in memory of Jackie Milburn, the legendary Newcastle striker who played for the club in the 1940s and 1950s, and every year it is awarded to an up-and-coming talent within the club’s ranks.
