The Magpies ace was prolific in April but Leicester’s Jamie Vardy beat him to the Premier League monthly accolade.

Some Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan Ayoze Perez being overlooked for April’s Premier League Player of the Month award.
The 25-year-old scored five goals for the Magpies in April as he grabbed the winner in the 1-0 victory over Leicester City, a hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Southampton, and the opening goal of the 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Perez’s strikes helped Newcastle get over the line in terms of their Premier League survival this season following a difficult campaign in which they were still just one point above the relegation zone come mid-February (BBC Sport).
In fact, nobody in the English top flight scored more times during the month than the Spaniard, while April also saw him break into the top ten of Newcastle’s all-time Premier League top goalscorers list (official Newcastle website).
Nonetheless, the award was given to Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, who also saw off competition from Eden Hazard, Jordan Henderson, Aymeric Laporte, Shane Long, Mohamed Salah and Chris Wood to win the public vote.
Here is how some of the Toon Army faithful reacted to the announcement on the official Premier League Twitter feed:
