Sven Botman produced a stunning performance to help 10-man Lille secure a point against Marseille on Sunday afternoon. Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter to his efforts in the 1-1 draw, urging the Toon to get him signed.

Botman, 22, has been strongly linked with a move to Tyneside this month. Newcastle are said to have made an offer, Sky Sports reporting a fee of £29million has been tabled. £6million below his £35million asking price.

Ultimately, though, it looks as if Botman – who helped Lille win the Ligue 1 title last season in his first year at the French club – will be staying at Lille this season. Lille’s president said as much over the weekend.

But with Newcastle fans watching on, Lille and Botman took on Marseille – a side with plenty of recognisable names. The likes of Dimitri Payet, William Saliba, Matteo Guendouzi and Cengiz Under – all have played in England.

Botman shines for Lille: What have Newcastle fans said?

Botman gave his side the lead, his first goal for Lille in 64 games. It was a crisp, neat finish – but it was his defending that caught the eye. WhoScored say he cleared the ball 12 times, five more than Lille’s second best.

He also produced three blocks and even though Marseille dominated possession, he still completed 87% of his passes. Newcastle fans have raved about Botman, urging their club to sign him before the end of the window.
