A number of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to slam Paul Dummett’s display during the Magpies’ defeat to West Brom on Saturday and suggest that Rafa Benitez needs to be on the lookout for a new left-back at the end of the season.

Newcastle supporters have gone into this portion of the season able to celebrate. The Magpies are safe and sat in the top-half of the table, but their position could have been even better were it not for the last two results.

Benitez’s men have lost 1-0 to Everton and West Brom, with the latter defeat coming in yesterday’s clash at St James’ Park. The result has given the division’s bottom side’s slim hopes of pulling off the most ridiculous great escape another small boost.

While West Brom had significantly more to play for on Saturday, Newcastle’s performance has been slated by many of their fans on social media, with many feeling that the majority of the players have switched off now that their primary objective has been achieved.

Dummett was one of those who appeared to be a completely different player during the months that saw Newcastle drag themselves away from the bottom three. Often considered a somewhat unfashionable member of the squad, the former Wales international seemed to take his game to another level under Benitez.

But it appears that several Newcastle fans saw the old Dummett before he was substituted inside the hour-mark during the clash with West Brom and feel that it is a warning to Benitez that he must sign another left-back during the summer as he may not be able to rely on the academy graduate.
