Newcastle United had to settle for a draw in their latest Premier League game despite looking destined to bag the three points.

Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Ayoze Perez’s performance during the Magpies’ draw with Bournemouth on Saturday, and many of the supporters were far from happy with the Spaniard – or Rafa Benitez.

Newcastle missed a brilliant chance to put some decent daylight between themselves and the bottom three at the Vitality Stadium as Dwight Gayle scored twice in the first-half to give Benitez’s men a commanding lead that they would hold onto until the final minutes of the game.

However, it would prove to be a sickening journey back for the travelling fans as Adam Smith scored with 10 minutes to go before former Newcastle midfielder Dan Gosling equalised around the point that the stoppage-time board was going up.

Despite the final 10 minutes, it was an encouraging performance from the visitors. But not every player impressed the supporters with their efforts in the win – and one of those players was Perez.

The 24-year-old provided an assist for one of Gayle’s goals, but missed a brilliant chance when the score was 2-0, and his overall contribution to the game was slated by the disappointed fans.

And Perez’s display has led to plenty of criticism for Benitez also. The Newcastle boss took Gayle off with 12 minutes to go, and some of the fans felt that it should have been Perez who was replaced, while others felt that his performance once again highlighted why letting Aleksandar Mitrovic leave on loan was a mistake.
