Newcastle United picked up only their second point of the new Premier League season on Saturday.

A number of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to slam Ayoze Perez’s performance during the Magpies’ goalless draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday which keeps Rafa Benitez’s men in the relegation zone in the Premier League.

There is little optimism surrounding Newcastle at the moment, with even Benitez himself starting to take a fair amount of stick from a minority of the supporters who have predominantly stayed loyal to the Spaniard up until this season.

The Magpies went into the game at Selhurst Park off the back of four straight defeats in all competitions. But with several of the Premier League’s heavyweights already faced, now is seemingly the time when it will start to become easier to assess what Newcastle’s prospects are this term.

Unfortunately for Benitez’s men, Martin Dubravka taking the man of the match award from the contest perhaps tells the main story from their clash with the Eagles on Saturday, with the home side creating most of the opportunities in the stalemate.

Newcastle’s best chance fell to Perez who capitalised on James Tomkins’ mistake in the Palace defence during the first-half. But he failed to ask too difficult a question of Wayne Hennessey, and his tame effort perhaps summed up his afternoon.

Several fans were hugely disappointed with Perez’s performance. The Spaniard is yet to score this term, and some of the supporters are adamant that he needs to be dropped for their clash with Leicester City next weekend as he is offering little right now.
