A number of Newcastle fans have slammed Ayoze Perez’s performance during the Magpies’ 2-0 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday that leaves Rafa Benitez’s men in the relegation zone in the Premier League.

After receiving some slight encouragement by securing a point away at Crystal Palace last weekend, the Newcastle supporters may have had some hope that their fortunes may be turning around following a dreadful start.

But any optimism has largely been quashed as the Foxes scored in each half to take the three points from St James’ Park. Few of Benitez’s men emerged from the game with any credit, but it certainly appears that Perez’s display may have received the most criticism on social media.

The Spaniard is yet to score or provide an assist this season, and that run continued with a poor performance against Leicester. Perez hardly looked dangerous and it angered supporters that he was not taken off sooner – it also angered them when he jogged off the pitch as the board went up showing his number given that the side were chasing an equaliser.

Plenty of fans now feel that Yoshinori Muto has to be given a chance away at Manchester United next weekend as Perez is not offering much to Benitez’s side at the moment.

Many supporters are extremely concerned by Perez’s current form and are starting to seriously question Benitez for the amount of faith that he is showing in the 25-year-old.
