After Alan Pardew’s return to football with West Bromwich Albion, Michael Ramsey went to the 56-year-old’s old club Newcastle United at the weekend to talk to fans about their former gaffer.
New West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Pardew is well known to fans of Newcastle United.
Pardew spent four years in charge at St James’ Park, where he led the Magpies to their highest placed Premier League finish in eight years (fifth) – and one that has yet to be bettered.
Yet for some reason, it would appear that the Londoner – who has reunited with his old Newcastle assistant John Carver at West Brom – is not exactly well liked on Tyneside.
Our friends at the Geordie Boot Boys sought to find out what Newcastle fans really thought of Pardew at Saturday’s game against Leicester City.
In short, they don’t have especially fond memories of the 56-year-old – or Carver for that matter.
“He (Pardew) always seems to have that impact when he first comes in and I think he probably will again at West Brom. But over time, as we’ve seen with us and (Crystal) Palace, and maybe even West Ham, it just goes downhill. There’s no way he’ll be in a job for the next few years,” said one fan.
“John Carver should not have a job in football, at all.”
After a draw and a defeat in Pardew’s first two games as West Brom manager, however, some Baggies fans will perhaps wonder if they will ever see that famous Pardew bounce.
