Newcastle United took another giant step towards Premier League survival as they picked up a hugely impressive away win.
Newcastle fans have been lauding Florian Lejeune after the defender took to Twitter to celebrate the Magpies’ fantastic away win over Leicester City which takes Rafa Benitez’s men to the brink of survival in the Premier League.
Newcastle went into the game off the back of victories over Southampton and Huddersfield which seemed to put them in pole position to book themselves another year at the highest level. And they got off to the perfect start at the King Power Stadium.
Jonjo Shelvey gave the visitors the lead inside 20 minutes and Ayoze Perez would seemingly make the points safe in the final stages with his fourth league goal of the campaign.
Jamie Vardy would set up a tense finish, but Newcastle would see the contest out and ensure that they moved themselves 10 points clear of the bottom three and into the top-half of the table with just six games to go.
It was another fantastic afternoon for Benitez’s men with several of his players stepping up to help take the Magpies to the brink of securing survival in the top flight and giving them a fighting chance of landing a hugely impressive finish in their first season back.
Lejeune was one of the players who shone in the victory. And after the contest, he took to social media to thank the fans and comment on the win that surely takes Newcastle out of the relegation discussion altogether.

Unsurprisingly, the Newcastle fans could not praise the defender high enough in response to his tweet. It has not been the easiest time for the centre-back since his £8.7 million move – fee reported by BBC Sport – but he has been superb lately.
He provided the assist for the goal that turned out to be the winner and helped keep a very exciting Leicester attack quiet throughout the contest – with one fan even suggesting that he had Vardy in his back pocket.
