Arsenal face decision over the future of William Saliba this summer, and Newcastle United are ready to step forward with a move.
The Daily Mail report that Newcastle want to sign Saliba on loan, with a deal for Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer now considered unlikely.
Saliba could be the top alternative target, and Mikel Arteta is now weighing up Saliba’s future having returned from a loan spell at Nice.
Saliba’s Arsenal frustration
Signed from Saint-Etienne for £27million in 2019, Saliba was touted as a star of the future before being sent back to Saint-Etienne on loan.
Arteta didn’t pick Saliba at all last season and then sent him on loan to Nice in January, where he again showed potential.
You could forgive Saliba for feeling frustrated by his lack of action with Arsenal, though a move to Newcastle could prove that he’s Premier League-ready.

Newcastle fans excited by Saliba rumour
Newcastle fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the Saliba rumours, and they seem pretty giddy.
Some think Saliba is ‘outstanding’, and would sacrifice bringing back Joe Willock if it meant they could sign his Arsenal teammate.
Others think it’s ‘classic Arsenal’ to let such a talented player go, and hope to see him arrive on Tyneside soon.
