Newcastle United have appointed Steve Bruce as their new manager, but Sheffield Wednesday feel there are issues to be resolved.

Sheffield Wednesday have issued a statement in the wake of Steve Bruce’s arrival as Rafa Benitez’s successor at Newcastle United.

Apparently unhappy with the nature of Bruce’s appointment, the Championship club said: “Regardless of the fact that the staff resigned from their positions with the Club on Monday, there remains outstanding legal issues to be resolved between the club and the staff and Newcastle United. The Club is currently considering its position and taking the appropriate legal advice.”

It had been reported by outlets like the BBC as early as July 10th that the Magpies were interested in appointing Bruce to lead them into the new English Premier League season.

Bruce had only been manager at Hillsborough since February, winning just seven matches in 18 attempts.

It’s fair to say that the switch to St James’ Park is rather controversial at all ends, with Newcastle fans hardly enamoured that he is their new manager.

Benitez had built an affinity with the Magpies support before contract talks broke down and he moved to China this summer.

That is just one of a number of issues and there is growing pressure on owner Mike Ashley.

Several supporters’ groups issued a joint statement earlier this month, calling on a boycott of the club due to his presence.

Rather predictably then, the Sheffield Wednesday statement suggesting action will be taken against Newcastle is being welcomed by some Newcastle fans.

It’s a rather messy affair and these supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts…
