Newcastle United are reportedly reluctant to pay more than £12 million to sign Salomon Rondon this summer.
Several Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from the Daily Mail suggesting that the Magpies are not keen to pay more than £12 million for Salomon Rondon this summer.
Rondon has quickly become a fan favourite at St James’ Park, scoring 10 goals for Rafa Benitez’s men. He has also provided more assists in the Premier League than any of his teammates this season.
The Daily Mail reports that he has a buy-out clause in his West Brom contract worth £16.5 million, but Newcastle are reluctant to pay more than £12 million for the Venezuelan who is out of contract at The Hawthorns next summer anyway.
The reports have divided Newcastle supporters on social media. Some actually believe that the club are taking the right stance given Rondon’s age and the fact that they may be able to get better elsewhere if West Brom are unwilling to accept £12 million for the striker.
However, plenty are neither surprised or happy about the reports. To some, it appears to be a simple choice to sign Rondon after he has played such an important role in Newcastle’s season – especially as they only need to offer £4.5 million more to get a move done.
Those Magpies supporters are also worried about who the club may get in as Rondon’s replacement if he is not signed permanently. While some are optimistic that Benitez may get the chance to make an upgrade, others remain concerned that he will be forced to pursue another Joselu. And some are worried about what their stance means for the rest of their summer plans.
