Newcastle United’s supporters have mixed views when it comes to the Leicester City player.

According to a report from Algerian outlet Le Buteur, Leicester City striker Islam Slimani has now found his way on to Newcastle United’s shopping list this summer, and Magpies fans have mixed feelings about the potential move.

While Rafa Benitez’s side desperately needs at least one new forward this summer, Slimani’s return since arriving in England is not likely to set any pulses racing, nor does his age suggest he would be a savvy long-term investment.

At 29, Slimani would represent a relatively short-term fix for Newcastle, while his record of eight goals for the Foxes last season is considerably less than some of the club’s other potential targets.

Slimani’s fans will point to the fact that he struggled for starts at the King Power Stadium, and there is a chance he could rediscover his best form if he plays week in, week out at St. James’ Park.

Much would depend on his price tag, because if Newcastle could negotiate a decent fee with Leicester, a move could be something of a no-brainer given Slimani’s previous form at Sporting Lisbon and an otherwise inflated transfer market.

Then again, if the Foxes ask for top dollar it could be a risk simply not worth taking for a Newcastle side that will not be held to ransom.
