Newcastle United are reportedly amongst the host of Premier League sides keen on Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand.

Newcastle fans have been reacting on Twitter to the reports that recently emerged from The Sun which suggested that the Magpies are keen on signing Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand during the summer.
The Saints appear to be in a desperate situation in the Premier League right now. Mark Hughes’ side find themselves in the bottom three and their only league win since the end of November came away at bottom side West Brom.

Relegation would put a serious question mark against the futures of a number of their players. But The Sun reports that the 28-year-old is set to leave in the summer regardless of which division the club find themselves in next season, and a number of top flight sides are keen to offer him a fresh challenge.

Interestingly, the news of Newcastle’s interest in Bertrand has been met with a mixed response on social media, with several fans keen to see the club target the England international in the summer.
Before this season, Bertrand was one of the division’s most impressive full-backs and some supporters believe that he would be an excellent target for the coming months. However, there are also some supporters who are scratching their heads over the reports.
Given what they have spent in previous windows, it seems unlikely that there will be a lot more for Rafa Benitez to spend after if he does give a £25 million Bertrand bid the green light, and the fans are concerned that other areas require more urgent attention when the window opens.
Here is the best of the reaction…
