Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe during the January transfer window.
Several Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports recently emerging from the Daily Mirror which have suggested that Leeds striker Kemar Roofe is on the Magpies’ January wishlist.
Roofe has enjoyed a superb season with the Whites, scoring 13 goals to help Marcelo Bielsa’s side sit at the top of the Championship heading into 2019.
But reports hint that Leeds could face a fight to keep the forward during the coming weeks. The Mirror reports that Rafa Benitez is keen on targeting Roofe if he is given funds to spend as he looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the business end of the campaign.
Newcastle have scored just 15 goals in 20 Premier League games, and Salomon Rondon is the only player in their squad who has found the back of the net more than twice.
However, plenty of the Toon Army are clearly not expecting Roofe to make a move to St James’ Park anytime soon. Benitez’s frustration at the lack of spending has become a key narrative in Newcastle’s transfer windows over the last few years, and the fans cannot see a good enough bid being made for Roofe.
They also cannot understand why Benitez would want Roofe when he has scored the same number of goals as Dwight Gayle, who is on loan with their promotion rivals West Brom.
It is also mentioned by one fan that he cannot see why Roofe would want to swap Leeds for Newcastle given how their respective seasons are currently playing out.
