Paul Dummett was outstanding as Newcastle United all but secured Premier League football for another season.

A number of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Paul Dummett’s performance during the Magpies’ superb 3-1 victory against Southampton on Saturday that has taken Rafa Benitez’s side to the brink of securing Premier League football for another year.
Ayoze Perez understandably took most of the headlines following an outstanding hat-trick for the home side at St James’ Park, but several of the Newcastle players produced excellent displays.
Benitez’s men were brilliant during the first-half and went into the break with a 2-0 lead. Southampton fought back after the break, and may have made some of the supporters quite nervous when they got a goal back. But Perez’s third of the evening ensured that Newcastle are within touching distance of guaranteeing that they will be staying up.
When the Saints were on top during the early stages of the second-half, Dummett was one of the players to really step up. The 27-year-old was brave when dealing with crosses, and helped ensure that the visitors had very little joy down the right flank.

According to Whoscored, Dummett won 11 aerial challenges during the game. Meanwhile, no other player on the pitch won more than six. Unsurprisingly, the fans were full of praise for the defender’s performance.
In fact, there have been plenty of supporters who have suggested that no player pushed Perez for the man of the match award more than Dummett, with many lauding the impact that he made, particularly when the away side were looking for an equaliser.

Here is how some of the fans reacted to Dummett’s display…
