Newcastle United are being linked with a shock move for Fabio Borini.

Fabio Borini of AC Milan celebrates his goal during the serie A match between AC Milan and Hellas Verona FC at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on May 5, 2018 in Milan, Italy.

Newcastle United lost 2-1 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday evening, and boss Rafael Benitez will be looking to strengthen his squad in January.

The Magpies have shown promise in recent weeks but still need a couple of quality players to boost their options, and a host of players are being linked with moves to Tyneside.

Atlanta United star Miguel Almiron is certainly one exciting target, but the latest name being touted for a move to St James’ Park isn’t quite so enthralling.

Tuttomercatoweb report that AC Milan forward Fabio Borini could leave the San Siro in January, and Newcastle United are – for some reason – allegedly keen.

This rumour seems somewhat bizarre, even if Newcastle have signed a number of ex-Sunderland players under Benitez, with DeAndre Yedlin, Javi Manquillo, Ki Sung-yueng and Daryl Murphy all joining the club under his management.

The Italian has started just three league games this season, and having failed to impress with bitter rivals Sunderland, Newcastle fans are unsurprisingly raging at this particular rumour.

Supporters have taken to Twitter to suggest that Borini is ‘horrendous’ and even worse than Ayoze Perez, Matt Ritchie and Jacob Murphy, with others joking that Newcastle may be targeting Almiron but will ultimately end up with somebody of Borini’s quality instead.
