Newcastle United picked up a hugely impressive win to move into the top-half of the Premier League table.
Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to laud Mo Diame after the midfielder put in yet another stunning performance during the Magpies’ win over Leicester City which has surely ended any talk of the club being in danger of potentially going down this season.
Rafa Benitez’s men made it three wins on the bounce in the top flight as goals from Jonjo Shelvey and Ayoze Perez helped them on their way to a 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium. The three points lift the Magpies into the top-half of the table and puts 10 points of daylight between themselves and the bottom three.
The turnaround in some players has been quite remarkable. And there has perhaps been no player who has enjoyed quite as drastic a turnaround as Diame, who endured a miserable first half of the season.
The midfielder had been criticised by many of the fans up until the turn of the year, but something appears to have clicked in recent months and now, he appears to be as important as any other player in Benitez’s side.
The partnership he is forming with Shelvey has been exceptional lately, and was a key reason why Newcastle were able to get the win against the Foxes.
Several fans have expressed their surprise at what Diame has managed to achieve over the last few months, while others have joked that he will soon be wanted by Barcelona if he continues to impress like he is currently doing, and some have even drawn comparisons with Patrick Vieira.
While those suggestions may be light-hearted, there is no doubt that he has been superb in recent weeks and his form is one of the key reasons why Newcastle now have little to worry about regarding what division they will be playing in next term.
