Newcastle United and Cardiff City clashed this weekend with the Magpies coming out on top.
Newcastle United got another victory under their belts this weekend as they overcame Cardiff City 2-1 at St James’ Park.
Goals from Christian Atsu and Yoan Gouffran ensured that a late Peter Whittingham strike ultimately proved to be a mere consolation, but it was the performance of Magpies striker Aleksandar Mitrovic that got the fans talking on social media after the clash.
Mitrovic has had to wait patiently for his chances this season. However his two-goal haul against Preston North End in the previous match ensured he started against the Bluebirds.
The Serbia international was not able to get on the score-sheet but he played a vital role in Atsu’s opener, laying the chance on a plate for the on-loan winger.
Mitrovic now has five goals and two assists in 10 appearances for Newcastle this season and he will be hoping to add to those tallies in the weeks ahead.
