Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is again pushing takeover talk.
It’s coming up to Christmas and the January transfer window, so Newcastle United fans will know exactly what that means; Mike Ashley is discussing selling the cub.
Ashley has been hugely unpopular since becoming Newcastle owner more than 10 years ago, having suffered two relegations under his control whilst seeing him fail to back managers in the transfer market.
Fans have been campaigning for Ashley to go for some time, and he did actually put the club up for sale last October, but a deal with Amanda Staveley fell through.
Now, Ashley is at it again, telling Sky News that a takeover could go through ahead of the January transfer window, as he finally attempts to get out of St James’ Park.
That news should be hugely exciting for Newcastle fans, but the reaction has been one of scepticism; they’ve heard it all before from Ashley and him possibly leaving the club.
Fans took to Twitter to suggest that they don’t believe a word Ashley says about a takeover, believing that he is simply using takeover talk as a way to avoid spending in January.
Many believe that he is already getting his excuses in, with the general line from fans being that they’ll believe a takeover when they see it after many failed rumours over the years.
