Newcastle United were comfortably beaten at Carrow Road, and Miguel Almiron endured a miserable afternoon.

While few Newcastle fans appear to be defending Miguel Almiron’s performance in the Magpies’ defeat to Norwich on Saturday, there appears to a big division emerging regarding the reason for his struggles at Carrow Road.
A Teemu Pukki hat-trick ensured that Steve Bruce’s men will go into next weekend’s clash with Tottenham still looking for their first point of the new campaign. Jonjo Shelvey’s stoppage-time strike made the scoreline a little more respectable.
It was an incredibly frustrating afternoon for Newcastle going forward, with Joelinton often looking isolated. Bruce named the club-record signing up front alongside Almiron, but the pair did not manage to strike up any sort of chemistry with the Paraguay international rarely putting himself in a position to support his teammate.
Whoscored.com shows that Almiron only completed 18 passes, attempted one dribble and registered just one shot on goal. That attempt did not test former Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul as it went off target.

Almiron’s form has left some supporters divided, with some questioning the playmaker’s ability and others suggesting that Bruce is to blame for the system that he used against the Canaries.
Those blaming Bruce believe that Almiron is best suited to being a part of a front three, but it does appear that the concerns over Almiron’s continued wait to provide a goal or assist are also growing, with many expecting to see him build on the promise that he showed during the second-half of last season.

Here is how some of the supporters reacted to Almiron’s performance at Norwich…
