Newcastle United-owned goalkeeper Matz Sels has seemingly not given up on saving his St James’ Park career.

Newcastle fans have been reacting on Twitter to comments that Matz Sels made to Sport Voetbal Magazine where he suggested that he could still have a future at St James’ Park when he returns from his loan spell at the end of the season.
Sels joined for £6.5 million in 2016 – according to the Chronicle – and began life with the Magpies as Rafa Benitez’s number one goalkeeper, making nine appearances in the Championship.

However, a string of mistakes saw the 26-year-old quickly fall out of favour and it surprised few fans when he left the club last summer to join Anderlecht on loan for the campaign. What may surprise them however, is that Sels has suggested that he may have a future with the Magpies.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the majority of the Newcastle fans have suggested that there is no place at St James’ for Sels as Martin Dubravka continues to prove hugely impressive for the Magpies following his January loan switch. If the club could keep the Slovakian, it is highly likely that the large majority would prefer him to stick around rather than see Sels return.
Interestingly however, there has been some support for Sels. Some Newcastle fans believe that the stopper was not given enough of a chance to adapt to life in England and is a much better goalkeeper than what they saw during his brief run in the first-team last term.
