Switzerland came from behind to hammer Belgium 5-2 on Sunday night.
England’s 2-1 victory over Croatia may have dominated the headlines over here, but there were plenty of other UEFA Nations League games taking place around the continent.
The biggest game away from Wembley saw Switzerland host Belgium in Group 2 of League A in the UEFA Nations League, and few could have predicted the incredible game that took place in Lucerne.
Belgium raced out to a 2-0 lead as Thorgan Hazard scored twice, putting Roberto Martinez’s side clear inside 17 minutes before things completely fell apart for Belgium.
Ricardo Rodriguez scored from the penalty spot to equalise, before Haris Seferovic scored twice to send Switzerland into half time leading the game 3-2; a remarkable fight back.
Nico Elvedi make it 4-2 and Seferovic completed his hat-trick to hand Switzerland a 5-2 victory, conjuring up an outstanding performance in a shock comeback.
One of the stars of the show was right back Kevin Mbabu, with the Young Boys star grabbing an assist with a fine cross for Seferovic’s third, again showing his development since leaving Newcastle.
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez allowed Mbabu to leave the club for Young Boys in 2016, and the 23-year-old is now one of Europe’s top young right backs, starring with his attacking play.
Newcastle fans watched Mbabu in action on Sunday, begging for him to come back to the club as soon as possible whilst hoping for a buy-back clause in his deal, adding that letting him go will come back to haunt the club – and that Benitez made his one big mistake by letting him go.
