Some Newcastle United fans aren’t happy that Javier Manquillo’s injury isn’t too serious.
Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter to Rafael Benitez’s update on Javier Manquillo – but many aren’t happy.
The Spanish manager revealed on Friday that the right-back was likely to miss the visit of Chelsea on Sunday, but that he was “better than expected” after being assessed fitness-wise.
Manquillo, a £4.5 million signing by Newcastle last summer, came off injured midway through last week’s 0-0 draw at Cardiff City.
It was something of a blessing in disguise for the Magpies by virtue of the fact that he endured a terrible first 45 minutes against Josh Muprhy, but Isaac Hayden, who replaced him, wound up getting sent off.
The former Sunderland full-back isn’t the most popular Newcastle player, having had a series of disappointing performances since joining from Atletico Madrid last summer.
And it looks like some fans of the St James’s Park club would prefer if he was out for the long term.
Fortunately for Newcastle, DeAndre Yedlin is fit again and will face the Blues at St James’s Park today, meaning that Manquillo wouldn’t have started even if he was fit.
