Newcastle United crashed to a 3-1 defeat at home to Fulham this weekend as the in-form London side dented the Magpies’ title hopes.
Rafa Benitez’s men are now level on points with second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion, with only goal-difference separating the sides, and with Huddersfield having a game in hand there is still all to play for with an automatic promotion place not yet guaranteed.
Saturday’s defeat was a real blow for a Newcastle side that has blown hot and cold this season and some fans quickly turned on specific players, with midfielder Jack Colback again in the firing line.
The 27-year-old has flattered to deceive for much of the campaign and despite being called on week in, week out, he cannot rely on his reputation alone.
Newcastle need to get back to winning ways and more importantly go on a run of form between now and May, and on this evidence Colback is more a hindrance than a help.
