Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter to Henri Saivet leaving the club.

The 27-year-old has joined Turkish side Buraspor on a season-long loan after struggling for first-team football under Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez.

The Senegal international only managed to make eight first-team appearances for the Magpies since joining two-and-a-half years ago.

Saviet looked to have thrown his Newcastle career a huge lifeline back in December by scoring a free kick in the win at West Ham United, but Benitez loaned him Sivasspor weeks later.

The St James’s Park club – then managed by Steve McClaren – spent £5 million on the former Bordeaux man, and some Newcastle fans are disappointed to see him leave for the season without being given much of a chance under McClaren or Benitez.

Saivet himself thanked United fans after his loan was confirmed.

On the plus side, Saviet was earning £35,000 per week in the North East [Silly Season], so Benitez saved Newcastle over £1 million in wages, providing the Turkish side are fronting his salary.
