Newcastle United are reportedly pursuing Gelson Martins.

Newcastle United have yet to make a move in this month’s transfer window, but they could yet have a hugely exciting move up their sleeve.
The Magpies came into January needing reinforcements, but have yet to bolster Rafael Benitez’s squad at all in what has been a frustrating month so far.
It’s all a bit reminiscent of last January, where Newcastle moved late to land Martin Dubravka, Kenedy and Islam Slimani, with varying degrees of success.
Benitez needs a couple of signings before next week’s deadline, and AS report that the Magpies now want to take Atletico Madrid ace Gelson Martins on loan.
It’s claimed that Atletico are demanding somewhere between €4million and €5million (£3.5million to £4.4million) for winger Martins, and Newcastle have indicated that they’re willing to pay it.
The 23-year-old hit 13 goals and 13 assists for Sporting last season, but has struggled to make an impact since a summer move to Atletico, starting just one La Liga game so far this term.

A winger with blistering pace, Martins would be a huge coup for Newcastle even on loan, and fans have been taking to Twitter to offer their verdicts on the rumour.
Supporters believe that Martins is the kind of signing that would keep Newcastle up, feeling that he will terrorise defenders in the Premier League, whilst adding that he is a step up on Perez and 10 times better than other wingers at St James’ Park.
However, many believe that this is simply too good to be true, and Martins is unlikely to sign for Newcastle – even if fans would love to see him in black and white until the end of the season.
