Newcastle United have announced that Elias Sorensen has signed a new contract at St James’ Park.
A number of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that the club confirmed on their official website that Elias Sorensen has signed a new long-term deal on Tyneside.
While Rafa Benitez’s side continue to struggle to give the fans too much to shout about, Sorensen has enjoyed a superb season in the youth ranks.
The 19-year-old has scored 19 goals this term. And he has been rewarded for his form by being handed a new three-and-a-half year deal with the Magpies, with the club confirming on their official website that Newcastle could extend those terms by a further year.
It has lifted a bit of the gloom at St James’ Park. And the fans have been overwhelmingly positive in response to the contract announcement itself on social media. But their responses also provide an insight into the frustration that exists currently.
Plenty have suggested that they would not be overly surprised if Sorensen’s new deal was the last piece of business that the club get done in January with major question marks surrounding whether Benitez will be able to get any new players in.
And some fans are adamant that Sorensen should get his first-team chance when Newcastle face Blackburn in their FA Cup third round replay, with Joselu coming in for a huge amount of criticism following the 1-1 draw at the weekend.
